  1. We love this kit. My 4 year old plays with it for hours and makes all sorts of interesting vehicles and machines. We honestly never have noticed a lack of base plates as some reviewers noted. The other complaint was the lack of fullness for the box. I admit we felt the same for about 5 minutes until we realized we finally had a great place to store all the other small sets of lego we had accumulated. I think Lego was smart to allow extra space. Anyway, people should lighten up and let the kids just play. I know we all loved lego growing up, but are the kids disappointed, or just the parents?

  2. This is a great starter set but I don’t consider it to be “ultimate.” Not a lot of pieces for the price. I purchased this for a 4 year old because I’d read that it was a great toy to keep kids busy and creative. I also did a lot of research on the building bases that are sold on Amazon, but I mistakenly thought that the building base plate *in this set* was 16″ by 16″ wide and not 16 by 16 studs which works out to about 3″ by 3″. Yes, it is mentioned in the product description but the only Legos I’ve seen prior to this were much larger, approximately 1″-2″ wide. Just a heads up to anyone who isn’t knowledgeable about toys: a decent size building base has to be purchased separately.

  3. I am happy with the purchase overall – the amount of pieces for the price was better than I could find in any stores and comparable to what I found online in other places. All said and done, this ended up being the best deal by a few dollars.

My one complaint is this: upon arrival at my house I was delighted with the outward appearance of this – exactly what I expected. But after I unpackaged all of the Lego the container was barely 1/3 full! It was a big disappointment. I am considering buying three similar products so that our Lego collection will be adequate and use the extra containers to store other toys…but geesh! when did plastic get so expensive?

  4. This is such a fabulous starter set for Legos. It has all the right “boy” parts in it including airplane propellers, race car steering wheels, etc. This set is very well loved in this house and has built everything from race tracks to helicopters. Great, great fun and provides HOURS of entertainment. If you are getting these for a true Lego afficionado, be sure to pick up a couple of them. It has quite a few pieces but to truly build a bunch of stuff, you’ll need more. Wait for a sale, however, Easter and Christmas usually provides a great sale at the giant toystore with an r in the name. Watch Amazon too – they knock ten bucks off the price every now and then! Highly, highly recommend!
