Product Description
The objective of the “Good Nite Lite” is to educate children to stay in bed until it is morning. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 years of age are just starting to grasp the concept of day and night and how it relates to regularly scheduled rest. The Good Nite Lite can assist children with better differentiating the concept of nighttime and daytime and reinforce the benefits of appropriate sleep patterns. The Good Nite Lite device itself is an innovative combi… More >>
The Good Nite Lite

After 3 months of my 3 year old girl refusing to nap (and being ornery / difficult every evening from 6PM until bedtime as a result!), we bought this product. It was immensely helpful in restoring her naps — and our sanity! But, it is not a replacement for consistent parenting — it is only a tool in the arsenal.
The first couple of days of the new “nap” schedule involved her coming out many times, and me having to threaten to “lock the door” (really I just hold it shut from the outside for the 2 minutes that she cried and threw a tantrum). It made me sad, but I was committed to the nap. Within literally 3 or 4 days she learned to really look forward to the light coming on, and it was a fun part of the routine. Now, a month later, she gets up from lunch and says “I’m going to go take my nap now.” She often doesn’t fall asleep, and just waits out the light, but she still gets quiet time and rest. And, in 70% of the time she gets 1-2hour naps. Our lives are SO MUCH BETTER NOW!
The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is that it is a little bit confusing to program. I actually read the manual.

My 2.5 year old was getting up around 5:15am every morning and it was getting really old. Heard about this night light and it has really worked! It took about a week for her to totally get it but now she does. I tell her every night before bed that she shouldn’t come out of her room until the sun light turns on and for the first few mornings, she would come out early and I would walk her back to her bed and remind her not to come out until she saw the sun come on. She did it with very little fussing and now, even if she wakes up before it comes on, she waits in her room until it does. Many mornings, she’ll say, “Sunlight on!!” and will give it a kiss before she leaves her room. She loves it. Only complaints – the timers are kind of a pain to set and it’s a bit over-priced. Still have no regrets, though!

This is a great product. My daughter (age=2) started waking up at 6:45 A.M., even on weekends. We used the Good Nite Lite to teach her that when the moon is on, she is to sleep or stay in her room and play. As soon as the sun turns on, she comes out and wakes mommy and daddy up. She looks forward to seeing the moon each night and proudly announces, “Moon’s on” whenever she sees it. It’s a clever product that every parent should use to restore their sleep schedule.

I bought this night light to start helping my twins understand that when the “sun” comes up, they can get out of bed. They aren’t in beds yet…still cribs…but I’m hoping this will make the transition easier. They love seeing the sun and point to it but they haven’t grasped yet what it means completely…they are just turning two.
As for the product itself, the moon light is way too bright and I wish there was a way to turn it off completely. I followed the suggestion of someone else that commented and I set the moon to turn on for just 1 minute before the “sun rises”. The night light is really a pain to set (changing the times, etc.) and I always have to look at the instructions again. I guess I would probably memorize them if I was constantly changing the time but I’ve just left it on the same setting – no setting different times for weekends vs. weekdays. I also wish it didn’t have to plug into an outlet since I don’t have one in plain view of both cribs. I have it plugged into an extension cord and propped up on the dresser but it’s pretty cumbersome.

From the first night we set up the Goodnite Lite in my daughter’s room, it has been working like a charm. She immediately liked the moon glow at night time, and the first morning she woke up and patiently waited in bed until it changed to a sun. She has been doing the same thing every day since if she wakes up before it changes. I do have to agree with some other reviews that they could have made it easier to set the times, but other than that it has been working great for us.
